Computer Science Department

  Workplace Specific Hazard Communications Training

  1. The Computer Science Department does not use or store hazardous chemicals or materials.

  2. Due to 1 above, the Department has no need for a Chemical Inventory List (CIL).

  3. The material the Department does store or handle that potentially has a MSDS associated with it is exempt from on site MSDS  requirements because it is packaged and used as any consumer would use the material.  This usage exempts the materials from the MSDS and labeling requirements.  Examples of such material are:

    1. Glass cleaner
    2. Copier toner
    3. Desktop printer ink cartridges
    4. etc
  4. Department employees are required, by policy, to have this Hazardous Communications training once each year.  It is valuable information since many department employees teach or have reason to visit campus locations where hazardous material is used and stored.  It is important to aware of signage meanings and appropriate procedures in case of accidents, etc when an employee is outside there normal workplace.

  5. There are Employee Exposure Report forms in the Department office, MSCS 219, in the lower right hand desk drawer in the Safety folder.  They are in a folder labeled, Safety.  Should a Department employee be exposed to hazardous chemicals while visiting another workplace, they may fill out the exposure form at that location (the preferred method) or at the CS Department.  It is not expected that the forms will be filled out at the department unless there is a delayed reaction to the exposure.

  6. The Department Contingency Plan Checklist is in the same Safety folder described in 5 above.
