UNIX Information for New Students and Faculty

This page contains some of the more important labs or information that you will need to use the departmental computer--the Sun Microsystems SunFire V880 (CSA).

These have information on logging on to the CS computer on campus and also at home.

Logging on to the system at the OSU campus in Stillwater:

Logging on to the system at home.  This is based on using Windows.  NOTE:  The information on using the arrow keys may not work on all Windows machines.    http://www.cs.okstate.edu/newuser/loginhome.csunix.html

Labs 1 through 3 are used to help acquaint students with some of the commands and information that they need to use the UNIX machine in order to do their programs.

Lab 13 is included here because it shows students how to write a program in C or  in Java and submit it.

A summary of the contents of all of the labs is listed for your convenience.

A handout on a comparison of all three shells   (the Bourne, C, and Korn) is available.

More UNIX information is taught in our CS 2351 -UNIX Programming class.
