Status and Information

Server Status: Red The OSU Computer Science Department MSDNAA server is unavailable between semesters. Shortly after the semester begins, all students enrolled for credit in Computer Science classes will have access to the MSDNAA products listed below. See the information, given below, to find out whether you are eligible to download products from this server, how to access the server, and to learn of the restrictions on using the software you download. The products available for download are listed at the bottom of this page. Check back from time to time, since new products will be listed as they become available. MPORTANT NOTE: Some users have reported that when they use the FireFox browser to download products from the MSDN AA server, all they get is a small file named "Downloader" or "Windows". The file actually is an executable that FireFox has misnamed. Rename the file so that it has the suffix ".exe", and then run the renamed file to download the product you originally chose. (Since FireFox is related closely to Mozilla and Netscape, the same problem may occur with those browsers, as well.)

What is the MSDN Academic Alliance?

The MSDN (Microsoft Developer's Network) Academic Alliance is a program by which Microsoft makes it possible for information technology departments to provide Microsoft operating systems and development tools to their students at no cost to those students. The OSU Computer Science Department has joined this alliance. The Department's membership is not an endorsement of or a requirement to use the products; instead, it is an extra benefit that the Department is pleased to provide at this time.

Who is the Departmental Contact for the MSDN Academic Alliance?

Dr. Blayne Mayfield is the deparmental administrator and contact for the MSDN Academic Alliance. If you have questions, you can contact him by phone (405-744-3471), by E-mail (bem@cs.okstate.edu), or you can visit him (MSCS 232).

Who Can Participate?

The products are available only to OSU students currently enrolled in Computer Science credit hours. Students who wish to download the products must agree with the licensing restrictions presented when downloads are attempted. Here are some important points of the agreements:

• The products can be installed on the student's own, personal computer only. They are not to be distributed to others or installed on lab computers.
• The products can be used for personal or educational purposes, but not in for-profit or commercial ways.
• Students may continue to use the products even after they no longer are enrolled in OSU Computer Science courses, but they no longer will be able to download updates or new products.

Where can I find the products and how can I get them?

If you are a student enrolled for credit in a Computer Science course, you should receive an E-mail on your okstate.edu account containing your username and password. Then, visit the OSU CS MSDN AA page, log in, and begin downloading products.

Many of the products are downloaded as ISO files; these are CD image files that can be burned to CDR media by most modern CD burning applications, such as EZ CD Creator and Nero. However, burning ISO images to CDR different from burning other types of files, so check the documentation that came with your burning application for specific details on how to use ISO images.
